A creamy, flavorful matcha latte is a perfect weekend treat! It can easily be made vegan, and can be made in no time from the comfort of your own home. A couple years ago, I had a craving for a matcha latte, but didn’t find any cafes in my area that had it! Turns out Starbucks has a green tea latte that is pretty good, but I love using this quick and easy way to make them at home whenever I want! I crave a matcha latte way too often to spend money buying them every time.
Matcha green tea is a special kind of tea that is grown in the shade before harvest in order for it to have a lot more chlorophyll than regular tea. This gives it a great flavor and lots of antioxidants! Once harvested, the tea leaves are ground into a fine powder, which is used to make tea and all sorts of other treats!
I found an awesome tea shop at home and got myself some matcha powder and a bamboo whisk and got started! If you don’t have a local Asian market that carries it, you can get matcha powder and the whisk online! But you can still prepare a matcha latte without these fancy tools! I would use a regular whisk or electric frother like this one, instead.
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 1/2 cup very hot water
- 3/4 cup milk of choice, hot Oat milk recommended!
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon sweetener of choice Optional – I like using real maple syrup
- Place matcha powder in a mug and pour the hot water over the tea. Using the bamboo whisk, mix thoroughly until dissolved.
- Add hot milk, sweetener and vanilla extract to mug. Stir and enjoy!
This latte would pair so well with these sweet potato muffins! Have you tried these recipes, yet?
